Understanding Raw Hair Behavior

Our raw hair is 100% untouched and unprocessed. Because of this, it may differ from what you’ve previously experienced, as much of the “raw hair” on the market has been altered through steaming or processing.

Our extensions fully retain the natural characteristics of the donor. With Indian-sourced hair in particular, maintenance is essential, just as it is for the donor themselves. Their routines are centered around moisture and gentle cleansing. Check out “Indian Curl Routine” on IG to follow up.

For this reason, sulfates and harsh products are not recommended, as they strip the hair and disrupt its natural behavior.

Below are common concerns, their causes, and how they are corrected:

Tangling

What’s happening:
All hair, whether natural or extensions (raw and virgin) will tangle when it becomes dry or lacks moisture.

Common causes:

  • Lack of moisture / hydration
  • Use of incompatible or harsh products
  • Product buildup

Solution:
Restore moisture with a hydrating, sulfate-free shampoo and a quality conditioner. Shampoo biweekly. Once properly moisturized, the hair returns to its natural, manageable state.

Shedding

What’s happening:
Shedding is a natural occurrence with all hair. Because our extensions (raw and virgin) are made from real donor hair, light shedding is expected. Heavy shedding is not. This happens if the hair is not maintained properly.

Common causes:

  • Sulfate shampoos or harsh ingredients
  • Cutting the wefts
  • Going extended periods without brushing
  • Rough detangling or tension brushes (the more Tension, the more pulling)

Additional insight:
Indian donors themselves experience increased shedding during wash days, and during seasonal changes such as monsoon periods. This is a natural part of the hair cycle.

Solution:
Use sulfate-free products, detangle gently (brush without balls) from ends to root, and maintain consistent moisture. Avoid cutting wefts whenever possible, and keep the hair conditioned to minimize breakage and excess shedding.

Nape Area Tangling

What’s happening:
The nape area (back of the neck) is the most friction-prone part of the hair. This area naturally tangles more due to constant movement, clothing contact, and body heat.

Common causes:

  • Friction from clothing (jackets, scarves, etc.)
  • Sweat and heat buildup
  • Lack of moisture in that area
  • Not detangling regularly

Solution:
Keep the nape area well-moisturized and detangled daily. Lightly braid or tie the hair at night to reduce friction, and use a satin or silk barrier when possible. With proper care, tangling in this area can be significantly reduced.
